The Y in Central Maryland Blog

Monday Mission Update

Was it hot enough for you this past weekend? It’s summertime in Maryland, and the temperatures and humidity are here with a vengeance.

Thankfully, families, kids and adults of all ages across the region get to cool off from the heat this summer in the Y’s many pools as well as the super-cool new Splash Pad at the Hill Family Y in Westminster. All are busy and operating at full tilt with lots of happy energy and exercise this summer! Such was certainly the case this past Friday at our Caribbean Nights Family event held at Y family centers throughout the region. Families celebrated summer together by dancing to Caribbean beats, tasting delicious foods, and playing pool games like Water Limbo, Coconut Relays and more!

While some families in our region are fortunate enough to be able to afford to jet off to the Caribbean or some other exotic island paradise, most cannot.  The Y exists for everyone, regardless of their vacation habits or financial wherewithal, and family fun events like Caribbean Nights provide an incredibly valued experience for all who participate, bringing fun and family bonding opportunities to the many local communities we serve across the region.  No one checks your passport or bank account; the only requirement is a smile and an interest in having fun.

These spectacular photos from Y centers around the region and a recent article in the Carroll County Times tell it all!

Thanks to all the Y associates who make summer at the Y, fun, safe, inclusive and, mercifully wet!  Thanks also to all of the volunteers and donors who ensure that the Y is here for everyone, and that economic status is never a barrier to fully participating in all of it.

All the best,

John
