Expanded Youth Access to Y Fitness Centers

Being active and healthy is important at all stages of life. When we engage in healthy activity and exercise at a young age, we are more likely to carry those habits into adulthood.

The Y is pleased to let you know that we’ve expanded the access youth have to exercise equipment, and have enhanced the coaching and training sessions designed to help them use the equipment safely and effectively.

Starting Monday, June 12, 2017:

AGES 8-12

  • Youth ages 8-12 may use the cardio equipment in Y fitness centers with direct supervision by a parent/guardian, provided they fit the equipment properly and have successfully completed the Kids Cardio class.
  • Upon successful completion of Kids Cardio, youth will receive a yellow band when entering Y Centers indicating they may use the cardio equipment in the fitness center.
  • Kids Cardio consists of one 30-minute class that is free for Y members. Registration for Kids Cardio will begin on Monday, June 12th.
AGES 13-15
  • Teens ages 13-15 may use the cardio and strength equipment (not free weights) in Y fitness centers without direct supervision by a parent/guardian, provided they fit the equipment properly and have successfully completed the Teen Quest class.
  • Upon successful completion of Teen Quest, teens will receive a blue band when entering Y Centers indicating they may use the cardio and strength equipment (not free weights) in the fitness center.
  • If Teen Quest has not been taken, teens may use the cardio equipment with direct supervision by a parent/guardian, provided they fit the equipment properly and have successfully completed the Kids Cardio class.
  • Teen Quest consists of two 60-minute classes that are free for Y members. Registration for Teen Quest is available now.

Please Note: Any youth under the age of 13 who has previously completed the Teen Quest program successfully will also receive a blue band indicating they may continue to use the cardio and strength equipment (not free weights) in the fitness center. Strength equipment use only includes the equipment that is part of your current program.

We hope this expanded access to Y fitness centers inspires you and your child to visit the Y together for healthy activity and exercise opportunities! If you have any questions regarding this email, please contact the Fitness Director at your Y Center.
